Cost & Funding

• Four Blue Bird electric school buses with type 2 AC charging batteries from Western Bus
• Total cost: $1,614,336
• Funding:
  • Bulk of cost covered by the PGE Electric School Bus Fund, made possible by the Oregon Clean Fuels Program
  • 70% of the full sale price is reimbursed by the Oregon Department of Education over 10 years
  • Grant also includes up to $150,000 for charging infrastructure

Technology & Operations

• Buses charge overnight at LOSD’s new transportation facility, designed to support an electric fleet.
• Serves longest routes: one for each high school and middle school, two elementary schools, and daytime shuttles.
• Operators and technicians trained; buses begin service September 2025.

Quick Facts

• First 4 electric buses in LOSD fleet, launching September 2025
• Range: up to approximately 100 miles on a single charge
• Emissions savings: Each bus avoids approximately 0.66–1.10 metric tons CO₂e per 1,000 miles driven
• Fleet impact: Four buses together save approximately 2.6–4.4 metric tons CO₂e per 1,000 miles, plus big reductions in local pollutants (NOₓ, particulates)
