Accommodations ensure that students with dyslexia have equal access to the same instructional material and meet the same academic standards without being hindered by their learning differences. The term “accommodation” may refer to an alteration of environment, curriculum format, time allotted for an assigned task, or equipment that allows a student with dyslexia to access material or complete an assignment.
Accommodations do not change the material being taught, the standards being met, or the skills or knowledge being assessed. Accommodations do not give students an unfair advantage over their peers. In addition, accommodations can be reviewed, changed, and updated at any time.
