Transferring Within LOSD (In-District)

  • Each school in the Lake Oswego School District has an attendance area defined by the Lake Oswego School Board. To enroll your student in a Lake Oswego school outside of your attendance area, please submit a Transfer Request Form for the appropriate grade level.

Guidelines for Transferring Within LOSD

  • The following guidelines will be used to consider requests for student transfer between LOSD schools:

    Elementary School

    • Elementary students' transfer requests within LOSD are required to submit a transfer request annually.
    • Transfer requests are granted annually based on space available at the student's grade level and school.
    • Guardians are responsible for transportation to the school requested.
    • Deadline: transfer requests may be submitted at any time.
    • Notification: the district decision is emailed by August 1 for the following school year.

    Middle & High School

    • Middle and high school student transfer requests within LOSD are granted based on available space at the school and, if necessary, for success in educating the student. Requests require the signature of both principals and guardians are responsible for contacting the principals for signatures.
    • Guardians are responsible for transportation to the school requested.
    • Transfers may only occur after a grading period.
    • Deadline: transfer requests may be submitted at any time.
    • Notification: the district decision is generally processed within 7-10 business days.

    Transfer Request Prioritization

Transfer requests are granted based on space availability, which is determined by each grade's teacher-to-student ratio and school capacity targets set by the School Board. The following are the criteria in order of how all transfer requests are prioritized:

    1. Student was originally moved by an LOSD requirement, i.e. kindergarten overflow or enrollment in a program, and wishes to remain at the school.

    2. Student has tenure at the school.

    3. Student is the sibling of a student opting into a program at the requested school.

    4. Student is making a transfer request for the first time.

    5. Student is new to the district.

Guidelines for Siblings of Transfer Students

    • The younger sibling(s) of a student with an approved transfer may attend the same school as their older sibling if the siblings are at secondary school (middle or high) at the same time.
