Transferring Within LOSD

  • Each school in the Lake Oswego School District has an attendance area defined by the Lake Oswego School Board.

    LOSD parents interested in enrolling their student in a Lake Oswego school outside of their attendance area should submit a Transfer Request Form for the appropriate grade level.

2022-23 School Year

  • In-District Transfer guidelines for the 2022-23 school year will be posted in March 2022.

2021-2022 School Year

  • The following guidelines will be used to consider requests for student transfer between LOSD schools:

    Elementary

    • In-district elementary transfer requests will be approved on a space-available basis and require an annual application renewal.
    • Transportation must be provided by the family to the school requested.
    • Deadline: None. May be submitted any time.
    • Notification: Summer.

    Middle School

    • In-district middle school transfer requests will be approved on a space-available basis and require the signature of both principals. Parents are responsible for contacting the principals for signatures. (Transfers due to moves within the district do not require principal signature.)
    • Transportation must be provided by the family to the school requested.
    • Transfer requests for students who are new district residents will be approved only if both principals agree that the transfer is necessary in order to preserve the ability to be successful in educating the student and will require the signature of both principals.
    • Transfers will only occur after a grading period.
    • Deadline: None. May be submitted any time.
    • Notification: Generally processed within 7-10 business days. 

    High School

    • In-district high school transfer requests will be approved on a space-available basis and require the signature of both principals. Parents are responsible for contacting the principals for signatures. (Transfers due to moves within the district do not require principal signature.)
    • Transportation must be provided by the family to the school requested.

Guidelines for Siblings of Transfer Students and Children of Staff Members

    • Exceptions to in-district secondary transfer guidelines will be allowed for younger siblings of students with existing in-district transfers if siblings would at any time be attending the same secondary school. This provision DOES NOT apply to out of district transfers.
    • Lake Oswego resident staff members* may request an in-district transfer for their own children at any grade level to attend the school where they are employed, or to attend a school other than the one where they are employed, if space is available. This provision DOES NOT apply to out of district transfers.

    *A staff member is defined as a district employee who has been established as a probationary, contract or permanent employee with the school district. Individuals on a temporary contract, a one-year contract, or working as a substitute, seasonal or casual employee are not considered staff members for purposes of this provision.
