Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year or Spring Festival, is a vibrant and joyous celebration marking the start of the lunar calendar year. One example of this festive occasion, celebrated in LOSD, is an annual festival at Palisades Elementary, our language immersion school, steeped in tradition and cultural significance. Families gather to enjoy elaborate feasts, exchange red envelopes filled with money for good luck, and partake in lively parades featuring lion dances, dragon dances, and more. The holiday emphasizes themes of renewal, prosperity, and the importance of family unity, making it a cherished time for reconnecting with loved ones and honoring ancestral customs.
