Educational Technology
In LOSD, we believe schools must both respond to today’s challenges and prepare students for the future.
Students need strong collaboration, creativity, communication, and research skills to thrive in college, careers, and life. Thoughtful use of technology can support these skills by giving students opportunities to explore ideas, collaborate, solve problems, and learn at their own pace. At the same time, we recognize the importance of foundational learning experiences, including hands-on activities, manipulatives, reading, writing, and face-to-face discussion.
Our focus is on using the right tools at the right time to support high-quality teaching and better meet the diverse needs of every student.
Effective use of technology fosters creative and innovative learning experiences while helping students develop as critical thinkers, collaborators, communicators, global learners, and responsible digital citizens.

What to expect in the classroom
Technology is one of many tools educators use to expand access to educational resources, personalize learning, and help students build the skills they need for the future.
Technology may be used independently, alongside traditional approaches, or not at all, depending on the lesson and learning goals. Students continue to engage in foundational learning experiences such as reading, writing, discussion, hands-on activities, and problem-solving. The goal is to provide a balanced learning environment with a variety of instructional approaches that strengthen overall learning.
At the elementary, middle, and high school levels, technology is integrated differently based on students’ developmental needs, the subject area, and the purpose of the assignment or activity.
Digital Tools & Apps Evaluation
Digital tools and applications are evaluated by our educational leadership and computer networking teams to rigorously vet every resource.
We evaluate each tool for:
Academic quality
Data privacy and security
Accessibility for all learners
Technical compatibility
To be approved for use, tools must:
Meet all district standards
Comply with federal requirements
Undergo regular re-evaluation based on contract cycles
Our app library is evaluated and updated regularly throughout the school year.
