New to LOSD? Students who enroll after the start of the school year have 30 days from their district enrollment date to enroll in the Device Protection Program. Follow these step-by-step instructions to complete enrollment.

Why Enroll

  • Coverage begins once payment or an approved fee waiver/reduction is received by the enrollment deadline.

Please note: The Device Protection Program is available only to middle and high school students. Elementary school devices remain at school and are not eligible for this program.

Program Details

Each middle school student (Grades 6–8) is issued a Chromebook, and each high school student (Grades 9–12) is issued a MacBook Neo. High school students may choose to use a personal device in accordance with district guidelines; however, students may be required to use school-issued devices for teacher-directed assignments in class. The Device Protection Program applies only to district-issued devices and does not cover student-owned devices.

The optional Device Protection Program helps reduce the financial impact of accidental damage, loss, theft, or vandalism involving a district-issued device. Coverage includes up to four incidents during the school year. Co-pays apply to incidents two through four and to all lost or stolen devices.

Coverage is valid for one school year (August through August) and is non-refundable. Students who first receive a district-issued device after February 1 may request prorated coverage.

Student Responsibilities

Students are expected to care for their district-issued device and report any damage, loss, or theft to school staff as soon as possible.

Students and families remain responsible for intentional or reckless damage to district property in accordance with district policy. Outstanding fines for intentional or reckless damage must be paid before a student is eligible to participate in optional programs, including extracurricular activities.

If a student demonstrates a pattern of careless or inappropriate use of a district-issued device, the district may issue a replacement Chromebook for the remainder of the school year at the school's discretion.

If You Choose Not to Enroll

If you choose not to enroll in the Device Protection Program, you will be responsible for the full cost of repairing or replacing your student's district-issued device if it is damaged, lost, or stolen. Charges reflect the actual cost of repair or replacement and may be as high as $500 per incident, regardless of whether the incident occurs on or off school property.

What Is Not Covered

The Device Protection Program does not cover:

  • Intentional misuse, abuse, or neglect by the student or members of the student's household
  • Lost or damaged chargers or charging accessories (replacement charges reflect the actual replacement cost and may vary)
