Welcome to Lake Oswego School District PreK, a developmentally appropriate, academically grounded preschool program that supports young learners through play, exploration, and purposeful instruction. Offered through our school district, PreK is hosted at our neighborhood elementary schools where space is available.

In PreK, students are taught and supported to be safe, responsible, and respectful. We work to create a positive culture of belonging, partner with families, and use thoughtful strategies to meet each child’s needs so every student feels confident, connected, and ready to begin their educational journey.

Pre-K Information

Age	Four years on or before September 1 of the current school year. Children five years old between July 1 and September 1 will be accepted after all four-year-olds have been placed.
Time	8:30 am-2:30 pm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 8:30 am-1:50 pm Thursday
Class size	Programs will be limited to 12 students per classroom.
Location	Pre-K classes will be hosted at elementary schools with available classrooms. When possible, children will be placed in their neighborhood school. Others will be placed as close as possible.
Expectations & Behavior	Our PreK program follows district and school policies, practices, and procedures, helping children build early learning skills while becoming part of a caring school community. To help families understand expectations and supports, we ask that you review the LOSD Student and Family Handbook. All students attending school in LOSD, including PreK, are expected to follow these guidelines, with any PreK-specific expectations clearly noted, including: Students are expected to use the restroom independently. If a student has an accident or becomes ill, they should be able to clean up and change into clean clothes without assistance. Families may be contacted to help if needed. For younger students, we recommend keeping an extra set of clothes in their classroom or backpack. The school "reserves the right to dismiss a child" if certain conditions are met: Safety Risk: If a child’s behavior poses a "persistent physical threat" to themselves, other children, or staff (e.g., severe biting or unprovoked aggression). Program Fit: If the school determines that the child’s needs exceed the "reasonable accommodations" the staff can provide without compromising the care of other students. Parent Conduct: A parent refusing to follow the school’s behavior plan or being disrespectful to staff.
Transportation	Parents will need to provide transportation. Pre-K children cannot ride the bus.
Fee	Because state funding does not cover PreK, the program is supported through tuition. Registration Fee: $150 (non-refundable) In-District: $950.00 per month, September - May Out-of-District: $1,000.00 per month, September - May
Lunch	Students can bring their own lunch or purchase one at school.
School Closures	Programs will follow the LOSD school calendar.
Staff	Our pre-kindergarten teachers are all Lake Oswego School District employees. Staff attend in-service meetings on curriculum and appropriate learning practices, and each brings their own unique style to their programs.
Out-of-District	Out-of-district families may apply and will be considered after all in-district families have been placed.

Application Process

Application Opens: Wednesday, January 21, 2026

Application Closes: Friday, April 10, 2026

Out-of-District families may apply and will be considered after all in-district families have been placed at the time of the lottery.

Lottery Process: Wednesday, April 15, 2026 (Families will be notified by Friday, April 17, 2026)

Lottery Notification: In-District Families will be notified by Friday, April 17, 2026.
Out-of-District Families will be notified by Friday, April 24, 2026.

Conclusion of the Lottery Process

Following the completion of the lotteries, the district will make available any remaining slots in the classes on a first-come, first-served basis to both In-District and Out-of-District families. Applications received after the lottery deadline will be date-stamped and enrolled in a class if space is available. If classes are full, applicants will be added to the wait list in order of receipt of the application.

Pay the $150 non-refundable registration fee (make checks payable to LOSD) via mail or in person at the district office. Your application will be complete when the form and registration fee have been received.
