Lake Oswego School Board Completes Superintendent Evaluation
The Lake Oswego School Board announced the completion of its annual evaluation of Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Schiele, commending her for significant contributions over the past year. Schiele's leadership in advancing strategic academic and operational initiatives has been instrumental in Lake Oswego School District’s success.
“Our school board is extremely proud to have Dr. Jennifer Schiele as the superintendent of the Lake Oswego School District,” said Vice Board Chair John Wallin, who led the superintendent evaluation process. “She is a model of leadership, integrity, and compassion that inspires administrators, faculty, staff, students, community members, and school board members to do all they can to become smarter, kinder, and better humans.”
The evaluation process was a collective effort, reflecting the board's commitment to transparency and inclusivity. It included eight nationally recognized standards for superintendent evaluation and three previously agreed-upon goals. This process also incorporated the superintendent's self-evaluation.
Board members expressed strong confidence in the superintendent's leadership, rating her on each standard and goal to achieve a consensus rating. Schiele earned an "Accomplished" (4.0) rating on four standards: Ethics and Professional Norms; Effective Organizational Management; Effective Financial Management; and Policy, Governance, and Advocacy.
A score of 3.0 is considered "Effective," and Schiele scored 3.5 or better "Highly Effective" in the four other standards, with growth in all areas: Inclusive District Culture; Culturally Responsive Instructional Leadership; Communication and Community Leadership; and Visionary District Leadership.
Schiele’s 2023-24 goals were Increasing Student Voice; Utilizing an Early Warning Report for Student Progress in Synergy; and Upgrading Student Mental Health Services. She increased her ratings on all three goals, evaluated as "Effective" for the Early Warning Report and Mental Health Services goals, and "Accomplished" for her goal of Increasing Student Voice.
The Lake Oswego School Board conducts superintendent evaluations annually. Schiele, appointed superintendent for LOSD in July 2021 with a three-year contract, has renewed her contract for another three years starting July 2024, ensuring continued and stable leadership for the district.
