LOSD CARES is a Connection and Resilience in Education Series hosted by the LOSD Wellness team of our school counselors, social workers and psychologists. Working with community mental health partners, LOSD has developed a workshop series for parents and guardians to support, inform, and empower families on issues surrounding mental health. Mental Health 101 Presented by NAMI Clackamas 10.5.23
Mental Health 101, presented by Gary Marschke from NAMI Clackamas, discusses concerns facing youth in our area, including suicidal ideation and how families can access resources. The National Alliance on Mental Illness Clackamas is a grassroots organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for everyone impacted by mental health issues through education, support, and advocacy, and delivered for and by people with lived experience since 1978.

Social Media Workshop: Helping Your Child Navigate Our Digital World 5.24.23
To support students’ social, emotional, and physical health, LOSD CARES is hosting a virtual workshop with Justine Kovak, clinical outreach specialist with the Children's Center, discussing how to support children developing and growing in our digital world, particularly in relation to living with pervasive social media.
During the 1-hour online workshop, parents/guardians will learn to identify signs of concern, talk with their child about it, and find help. This workshop is for adults only and is relevant to parents/guardians of children in all grade levels.

Substance Use & Prevention Workshop: A Talk to Have With Your Child at All Ages 3.15.23
Children as young as elementary-school age are reporting the use of alcohol and illicit drugs. To support students’ social, emotional, and physical health, LOSD CARES is hosting a virtual workshop with Brian McCrady of the Clackamas County Prevention Coalition discussing substance abuse prevention for children in grades kindergarten through 12th grade. During the 1-hour online workshop, parents/guardians will learn how to identify signs of substance abuse, how to talk with their child about it, and how to find help.

QPR Suicide Prevention Training 11.15.22
LOSD CARES hosted a suicide prevention training called QPR -- Question, Persuade, Refer -- on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 5:30-7:30 p.m. The session was held in person for parents/guardians of LOSD students. Our School Counselor Marcy Watts and School Social Worker Kristen Guelsdorf are certified QPR trainers.
QPR is intended to offer hope through positive action. By learning QPR, you will come to recognize the warning signs, clues, and suicidal communications of people in trouble, and gain skills to act vigorously to prevent a possible tragedy.
