Upcoming Events and Activities

Not On Our Watch! Is a group of students dedicated to interrupt microaggressions and bias incidents in our schools. Whenever we witness bias and racist incidents, we will interrupt (as long as it is safe) or seek the help of adults and take the appropriate steps to connect and correct the situation. Members will receive training and the group will start functioning during the 2021-2022 academic year. If you are interested in being part of this group, enter your information in the form below. We will send you more information and meeting dates. Thank you for helping us stop microaggressions and bullying in our schools.

*Please note that when using the term bias, it applies to all dimensions of human differences, including culture, race, language ability, learning styles, ethnicity, family structure, religion, sexual orientation, gender and socioeconomic differences.

Students For Change Club

  • Four years ago we piloted a student initiated lunchtime club for kiddos in Grades 3-5, called Students For Change: Stating Not Hating.

Participants discussed strategies on how to be an advocate for all individuals regardless of their race, religion, ability level, gender identity, or sexual orientation. From week one of this school year we have received requests from students and parents to get the club started again so that our Oak Creek Community can...

    1) Provide a safe space for kids in grades 3-5 to be themselves, share ideas & learn from each other so they can
build empathy and successfully perspective take
    2) Support students in dealing with real-life issues involving race, gender, sexuality, disabilities and mental health
    3) Educate & equip students to be Upstanders and how to address negative comments in the school community

Starting on Wednesday, November 4th we will begin holding meetings every other week from 12pm-12:45pm (during our break between the AM/PM cohorts). To participate in the club, students must first receive parent/guardian permission - Please complete this form if you would like your child to attend.

If you have any questions about the club or have an interest to co-facilitate please reach out to Ms. Sarlos (sarlosl@loswego.k12.or.us), or Ms. Thompson (thompsod@loswego.k12.or.us).

Thank you for your support in helping to shape tomorrow's leaders!
