What would happen if the Local Option Levy was not renewed?
The current levy expires at the end of the 2019-2020 school year. It provides more than 12% of the District’s total budget. Without this funding, the District would have to make decisions to reduce the budget by approximately $10 million beginning in 202-2021. Reduction would impact every aspect of school programs and educational services including teaching positions, class sizes, and course offerings. Reductions of more than 80 teaching, licensed, and classified positions across the district would result in increased class sizes and loss of individualized instruction. Program eliminations would affect:
- Programs like Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and the Arts
- Vocational/technical and other hands-on learning programs
- Extracurricular programs, field trips and athletics
- Academic and mental health counseling supports
If the proposed levy does not pass, the total tax assessment would decrease when the current levy expires.
