  • Are cases for chromebooks provided?

Posted by Kurt Schultz on 10/24/2018

Cases are not provided. However, students are welcome to protect their chromebook with a case, sleeve, or skin. Many varieties of these are available, but will need to be selected based on the chromebook model checked out to your student. Any covering/personalization applied to the chromebook should be removable and not mar the surface. Personalization that results in damage to the chromebook may incur library fines at check in. Some ideas and resources related to personalization are available here: https://www.schooledintech.com/great-ways-to-customize-your-personal-or-school-chromebook/

  • Will all classes use chromebooks every day?

Posted by Kurt Schultz on 10/24/2018

No. The chromebook like a textbook, pencil, notebook, protractor, calculator, graduated cylinder, paintbrush, or trumpet is one of the tools we want students to have available to support their varied learning needs throughout the day. Being prepared with charged chromebook each day is an important student responsibility and part of coming to school ready to learn.

  • What do I do if I lose my chromebook?

Posted by Kurt Schultz on 10/24/2018

Lost or damaged chromebooks should be reported to the library just like lost or damaged textbooks. Reporting a loss as soon as possible may help us recover the device and avoid replacement charges. Similarly, reporting damage when it occurs may allow us to assess and execute any needed repair to ensure the device remains functional for the student. Replacement cost for a lost or irreparably damaged device is $350.

  • Can a student opt out and decline to check out a chromebook?

Posted by Kurt Schultz on 10/24/2018

All students will be issued a chromebook just like all students are issued textbooks for courses in which they are enrolled. Parents are encouraged to make plans with their students about how to best care for the chromebook checked out to them. Parents in need of support with this planning process or students who might need special accommodations should reach out to their child’s counselor.

  • Do I get to keep my chromebook on breaks from school (ie. winter break, spring break, summer break)?

Posted by Kurt Schultz on 10/24/2018

Chromebook checkout is for the entire school year. Students will be able to take chromebooks home over winter and spring break. At the end of May, students will turn in their chromebooks and chargers so that we can refresh devices over the summer and prepare for deployment in the Fall.

  • How does content filtering work on the chromebooks?

Posted by Kurt Schultz on 10/24/2018

Content filtering is provided for our networks by our Computer Network Services (CNS) department and Clackamas Education Service District (CESD). All district chromebook devices will also be centrally managed by CNS. Students using school devices on outside networks with different filtering solutions will still be expected to abide by LOSD Tech Agreement expectations and may be subject to discipline and/or restriction of technology privileges.

  • What will the procedure be for lunch time?

Posted by Kurt Schultz on 10/24/2018

Following the deployment of chromebooks and in preparation for our move into portables following Winter Break we will implement the following approach to lunch time management of chromebooks:

    • 6th graders may begin carrying backpacks to all classes beginning on November 1st or they may put their chromebooks in their lockers.
    • 7th and 8th graders will drop off chromebooks at 5th period class or in their lockers before proceeding to lunch.
