Honors Chemistry is for all students interested in the medical field, science research, all types of engineering, and computer technology. Course topics include a study of gases, liquids, solids, atomic structure, chemical bonding and molecular architecture, nuclear and chemical reactions involving energy, rates of reactions, equilibrium, organic chemistry, and qualitative analysis. This course heavily emphasizes the discovery method in laboratory work so student experiences directly lead to chemical principles, not memorization. Honors Chem. Study places major emphasis on applying previous knowledge with new ideas gained during the course to develop critical thinking. During the last month of school, students will combine comprehensive chemistry skills and concepts to identify unknown chemicals.
