Art 1, 2, 3, AP Studio Art/2-D Design

  • Art 1

    Art 1 is a course that focuses on drawing. Traditionally, we think of drawing as a pencil on a piece of paper. We will explore drawing in all its capacities using various media that could include, collage, scratchboard and inks. Studio work will develop and reinforce student understandings of the elements and principles of art and design. Students will learn how to create, critique, evaluated and appreciate works of art. Students will improve their ability to create via direct observation. Students will explore their own aesthetic views. Art history will be infused throughout the course. There is a fee for materials the student takes home.


    Art 2

    Art 2 is a course that focuses on painting. We will explore painting using tempera, watercolor and acrylic. Studio work will develop and reinforce student understandings of the elements and principles of art and design. Students will learn how to create, critique, evaluated and appreciate works of art. Students will improve their ability to create via direct observation. Students will explore their own aesthetic views. Art history will be infused throughout the course. There is a fee for materials the student takes home.


    Art 3

    Art 3 is an academically rigorous class. Art three is designed for the art student who intends on applying for the AP studio art class and/or, are serious about pursuing art in high school and beyond. Art 3 students can count on many out of class projects and a minimum of six hours of art related work (in addition to class time) per week. Students who elect to take this course should be self-motivated and self- directed as well as cooperative, responsible art students. There is an emphasis on developing creative, conceptual thinking as well as personal expression and observational drawing skills. Students will work in a variety of media including drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, collage and more. Art history will be infused throughout the course. The course may be repeated for credit.


    AP Studio Art/2-D Design

    AP Studio Art is designed to allow the experienced and serious art student to investigate specific areas of art in depth. AP Studio Art is an academically rigorous class. Students will choose from a variety of art areas from self-directed and designed art experiences. Students who elect to take this course should be self-motivated and self-directed as well as cooperative, responsible art students. This course is especially directed toward those preparing art portfolios for college entrance. Critiques, written analyses, blogging, artist statements, out of class assignments and completion of the AP portfolio will be required. Students are asked to attend a retreat and take the AP test. There is a fee for materials the student takes home. The course may be repeated for credit.
