• English comprises the study of literature and language--the symbolic system through which we express our ideas, feelings, and emotions.  In English, students not only study the human condition, but through the exercise of abstract and creative thought must also be able to express what it means to be human.  Students are expected to purposefully generate forms of language that span the distance from the simple to the complex and from the concrete to the abstract in formulating and communicating their own unique understanding of the world and the nature of life, its meaning and possibilities.
